Now to make sure everything is all packed up, ready to load tonight so I am ready to be at the show for the 7:30am setup. :-O<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-330wEhx4jeU/Uv4tPZnwxbI/AAAAAAAABsE/DWNL4Qj8kvo/s1600/Twisted+Celtic+Clovers+BM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-330wEhx4jeU/Uv4tPZnwxbI/AAAAAAAABsE/DWNL4Qj8kvo/s1600/Twisted+Celtic+Clovers+BM.jpg" height="123" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'll be sure to take my camera with me (with fresh batteries!) so I can take photos of my setup at the beginning of the show.</div>

Well, I managed two, but don't know about the third. I had to go into the Pain Clinic today for an injection and it took them 3 tries to find a vein for the IV...sheesh! Not sure the resulting swelling/bruising is going to let me get the last one finished (it is started though...started it last night watching an Encore presentation of the Beatles Special) In the mean time, here you go....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0zsei-IGhHc/Uv0LocjSTRI/AAAAAAAABr0/w6w33A3di64/s1600/Bookmark+w+Overlapping+Chains.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0zsei-IGhHc/Uv0LocjSTRI/AAAAAAAABr0/w6w33A3di64/s1600/Bookmark+w+Overlapping+Chains.jpg" height="88" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This bookmark is missing the last row, which I very seldom ever add.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Rg7m_ZlMJvI/Uv0LoZQRlpI/AAAAAAAABrs/j91C0E_jx9Y/s1600/Wedgewood+Blue+Bookmark.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Rg7m_ZlMJvI/Uv0LoZQRlpI/AAAAAAAABrs/j91C0E_jx9Y/s1600/Wedgewood+Blue+Bookmark.jpg" height="101" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This bookmark is based on a bookmark posted by an InTatters member. My own stitch counts though. To me, it looks like a rotated version of Jane's Bookmark using Lock Chains between elements.</div>
<br />
The last bookmark, should I get it finished is my pattern for the Twisted Celtic Clovers Bookmark, done in Ocean Turquoise and Daffodil Yellow. (Oh, I'm SO ready for Spring! Can you tell? lol)Carolivyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12207213314667441643noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8085557839533812996.post-16869191836887974842014-02-11T19:33:00.000-05:002014-02-11T19:33:14.375-05:00Extras for the Show!As I'm done with all that I had planned to make for the show this weekend, I decided to work on bookmarks in the remaining time. I have one more to make (Silver Glitter) but haven't figured out what I'm putting on it yet...sooooo<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I'm wishing I had had another button for the White Satin one now. Kind of looks like antennae...lol Aw well, I'm sure some little girl won't mind...lol<br />
<br />
I sold several of these in different styles at last year's Farmers Market and as I have a Craft Show coming up mid February, I thought I'd try and get the ones I have bought made up.<br />

I am moving to a town that has public transportation, so I'm working out ways to carry my finished works in smaller containers so I don't have so much to carry all at one time. Here is my solution to all of the finished jewelry that I have done. I will be taking this around to several of the boutiques to see if I can put some of my jewelry with them, plus doing different craft shows (there are a lot more there than around here!) I won't be able to start out taking them to the Farmers Market though...they are only looking for food/produce vendors there.<br />

For those of you who want to make your own earring hangers, here is a photo of mine.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VCO2fwO1nhs/Uuf2HvuffTI/AAAAAAAABoY/25CKYVPGbHs/s1600/My+Earring+Hanger.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VCO2fwO1nhs/Uuf2HvuffTI/AAAAAAAABoY/25CKYVPGbHs/s1600/My+Earring+Hanger.jpg" height="320" width="306" /></a></div>
I used an 8x10" frame, 14 count plastic canvas, square wooden dowels and an eye hook to hang it on the wall. I used a glue called Liquid Fusion to between the canvas and the frame, then small wire brads to hold the wood over the top of the canvas (all on the back of the frame). Screwed in the eye at the center of the top and hang on the wall. This frame will hold LOTS of earrings.....depending on the style and size. If you have a lot of Euro-clasp earrings, they won't work with this as-is, but if you weave a thin ribbon through the holes of the plastic canvas, you will give yourself places to hang them as well.<br />

I hadn't realized that it had been quite so long since I've been here and posted! (color me embarrassed!) I have been very busy this last year, making jewelry and other things for the local Farmers Market and Craft Shows. I'm currently getting ready for the upcoming season for the Farmers Market...it starts on April 27th. Can you believe we have snow on the ground again though? :-O<br />
<br />
I have a new love to share with you all! I recently discovered Kumihimo (Japaneses Braiding). <br />

<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
I started out with a Kumi Loom, but really didn't like the lack of tension control. I wanted to go all out and get a Marudai, but the ones online START at $105! Not....so, I was going to have my brother (who loves working in wood) make me one when one of the ladies over at InTatters mentioned that she made one with a wooden stool purchased at WalMart. So...I went to WalMart, got a 24" tall stool for under $20, ordered 24 wooden thread spools from Ebay and then went to Home Depot with my digital scales and bought washers and bolts to make the Tama (weighted spools).</div>
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Here are some photos of my Marudai, Tama and Counterweights</div>

As you can see, I'm having a blast! You may ask what I will do with so much cord...well, I'm taking it to the Markets with me and making neck cords, friendship bracelets and key rings....also have plans to tat directly onto one of the neck cords I made with beads...yeup, you can add beads as you are making the cord too!<br />
<br />
Can't promise to post every week, but I WILL try to post a lot more frequently than every 12 months....lolCarolivyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12207213314667441643noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8085557839533812996.post-34589444250051427932011-12-07T21:49:00.000-05:002011-12-07T21:49:05.248-05:00Lots of Earrings Made!Well, coming up on the Christmas Season for the Farmers Market I bought a brand new earring display, then had to fill it with earrings. We were off the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so I had 2 weeks to get all the earrings done that I wanted to.<br />
Here is the display all filled up.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wznJlCJ05lM/TuAjOlNyq0I/AAAAAAAABh0/ZKjVdXxpzn8/s1600/Foldable+Earring+Screen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="325" mda="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wznJlCJ05lM/TuAjOlNyq0I/AAAAAAAABh0/ZKjVdXxpzn8/s400/Foldable+Earring+Screen.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>Here is a better picture of all the earrings.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cE4lyBQbi-I/TuAjZ7c2O3I/AAAAAAAABh8/S70enWhMMOY/s1600/New+Earrings+Made.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" mda="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cE4lyBQbi-I/TuAjZ7c2O3I/AAAAAAAABh8/S70enWhMMOY/s400/New+Earrings+Made.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>The only ones here that are not on the display when I took the photo are the Christmas Trees. Most of these earrings are now available on my <a href="http://www.customcreationsfromcarolivy.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">blog store</a>. <br />
Even though the Market will be open one more week I will not be going. It is just TOO cold! Even with all the layers of denim and flannel I had on last Saturday I like to froze! Not very many people came either. Funny thing is that 3 people came who had never been to the Market and didn't even know we were there even with all the advertising we do and all the signs at the gate and along the road...gotta wonder about some people...lol<br />
<br />
I have posted all the new Christmas ornaments on my store too but I really want to show you this snowflake that I test tatted for Frivole (from InTatters).<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gio7y9NR2es/TuAkhmUTgbI/AAAAAAAABiE/6xLXJZzuQwM/s1600/Criss-Cross+Crystal+Snowflake.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" mda="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gio7y9NR2es/TuAkhmUTgbI/AAAAAAAABiE/6xLXJZzuQwM/s400/Criss-Cross+Crystal+Snowflake.jpg" width="375" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Criss-Cross Crystal Snowflake</td></tr>
</tbody></table>I tatted this one according to the pattern but the next one I just couldn't resist adding beads.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lffffv8Obq4/TuAkwECSjFI/AAAAAAAABiM/LlWF8vgjLZM/s1600/Criss-Cross+Crystal++Snowflake+with+Bugle+Beads.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" mda="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lffffv8Obq4/TuAkwECSjFI/AAAAAAAABiM/LlWF8vgjLZM/s400/Criss-Cross+Crystal++Snowflake+with+Bugle+Beads.jpg" width="383" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Criss-Cross Crystal Snowflake with Bugle Beads</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Believe it or not, this one is exactly the same stitch count as the first one. The only difference is that the picots are longer to accomodate the bugle beads. For any interested in the pattern, Frivole has posted it for sale on her <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/88118356/criss-cross-snowflake-tatting-pattern" target="_blank">Etsy Shop</a>. I tatted both these snowflakes with Lizbeth Niagra Falls size 20 thead. I just had to order me some Blue Ice that should be here soon to do better justice to the snowflake patterns that Frivole is coming up with.Carolivyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12207213314667441643noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8085557839533812996.post-5349165398096099352011-10-09T20:03:00.000-04:002011-10-09T20:03:47.591-04:00Still Very Busy...sighI'm sure you are all wondering where I have been lately. Well, truth to tell, I've been VERY busy with the local Farmers Market which is *planning* on staying open until mid December (weather permitting and we don't get a lot of snow) Not only am I taking my tatted jewelry to the Market, I've been taking all of the cards I have made, the bags that I have made and I have been baking like a silly fool every week and taking cookies galore! This week I had a new cookie plus 3 batches of fresh (home made) bagels and 2 batches of scones! :-O I won't be making cookies this week but I will be making more bagels and scones to take as they sold realllly well. The following week I start making Christmas cookies to take to the Market...yes, it is getting close isn't it?<br />
<br />
This week I also started taking Christmas ornaments that I have been making. These two baubles are my first baubles, but I'm sure more will follow.<br />
<br />
This first one is made with the pattern <a href="http://www.interweave.com/needle/projects/tatted_star.asp">Tat A Winter Star</a>, done in size 20 Lizbeth thread. In addition to the pattern I added a ring of 6-6 with an iridescent dagger bead dangling form the picot. I attached it to the longest picot of each "arm" with silver jump rings. I draped it over a plastic bauble using small drops of <a href="http://www.sculptingstudio.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=122">Liquid Fusion</a> on the under side (at the junction on the clover) to keep it in place.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E5XwU45_k8M/TpIzt9ueedI/AAAAAAAABM8/L32d0ZF8wa0/s1600/Tat+a+Winter+Star+on+a+Bauble.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="393" kca="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E5XwU45_k8M/TpIzt9ueedI/AAAAAAAABM8/L32d0ZF8wa0/s400/Tat+a+Winter+Star+on+a+Bauble.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Tat a Winter Star on a Bauble</td></tr>
</tbody></table>This next bauble is the <a href="http://www.terrythetatter.com/ww.html">Windows & Wheels Ornament</a>, done in size 20 Lizbeth. To make the glass ball glitter, I poured a little bit of floor wax inside the bauble, swirled it all around then dumped out the extra and sprinkled in two different sizes (large and micro fine) iridescent glitter. Swirled that around then dumped out any extra there and let dry.<br />
<br />
I was asked at the Market if I could make the above snowflake on a glass ball like the one below. So now I need to make it to a store and get some more glass balls (this one was my last...sigh) and make some more baubles. <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mLv4kJJFbos/TpI0b6B9k7I/AAAAAAAABNA/IIK3vS9Bf30/s1600/Windows+%2526+Wheels+Ornament.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" kca="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mLv4kJJFbos/TpI0b6B9k7I/AAAAAAAABNA/IIK3vS9Bf30/s400/Windows+%2526+Wheels+Ornament.jpg" width="358" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Windows & Wheels Ornament</td></tr>
</tbody></table>I REALLY like the way this looked as I was tatting it and thought it would make a GREAT necklace! I'm adding a bead to the center of the center ring, seed beads to the 4 picots on the bottom of the outside ring and a dagger bead dangling from the picot of the bottom ring (the pattern is doubled for the bauble). I have it started, using size 20 Lizbeth in color # 158 (Niagra Falls) with the center bead matching exactly the darkest of the aqua/turqouise colors and copper seed beads and dagger bead. I will be sure to post a picture of it when I get it finished.Carolivyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12207213314667441643noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8085557839533812996.post-72229169588723315042011-09-09T09:26:00.000-04:002011-09-09T09:26:00.430-04:00First Snowflake of the YearYeup, you read right. This is the first Snowflake of the year...lol Since I am doing the Farmers Market and my tatting is selling quite well I've started making Christmas ornaments. Not only will I be doing the Market each Saturday until mid December, I have a Craft Show coming up on the first Saturday in December. I'm still planning on doing this show as I have done it now for about 17 years. So that means really getting my b*** in gear...lol<br />
<br />
Anyways, here is the snowflake. I have tatted this with a single strand of DMC Light Effects Embroidery Floss - White and a size 8 tatting needle.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-REiOxOOIlTU/TmoRa9tMmYI/AAAAAAAABMw/w19oloCJoQU/s1600/The+Eighteenth+Day+of+December.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="395" nba="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-REiOxOOIlTU/TmoRa9tMmYI/AAAAAAAABMw/w19oloCJoQU/s400/The+Eighteenth+Day+of+December.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
This next one is a Tatted Christmas Tree that can be found on <a href="http://www.be-stitched.com/tattingpatterns.asp">BeStitched</a>. This was tatted with size 80 thread and done with the shuttle. I filled this shuttle (a Clover) with the thread and I want to see how many of these trees I can get with one shuttle full. So far I have 2 done...I keep getting side tracked...lol<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ywrA41_XRDA/TmoTGBdkJQI/AAAAAAAABM0/tWtJ4z08cno/s1600/Tatted+Christmas+Tree+-+size+80.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="327" nba="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ywrA41_XRDA/TmoTGBdkJQI/AAAAAAAABM0/tWtJ4z08cno/s400/Tatted+Christmas+Tree+-+size+80.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>I sprayed the tree with a bit of Glimmer Mist (designed for cardmaking and scrapbooking) and stiffened it with hairspray. I'm not all that impressed with how stiff it is with the hairspray so I am working on stiffening both of these with Clear Acrylic Spray Paint. As soon as I get a few pennies together though I'm going to purchase <a href="http://www.sculptingstudio.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=122">THIS</a> and see how well it works.Carolivyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12207213314667441643noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8085557839533812996.post-21286547765185739672011-09-03T19:56:00.000-04:002011-09-03T19:56:18.727-04:00So much new jewelry!If you are following me on my By Carolivy blog then you know that I have been really busy the last couple of monts at the local Farmers Market selling my cards, tatting and home baked cookies. Well my tatted jewelry has been selling like hot cakes, so instead of posting the huge amount of photos I am just going to give you a link to my <a href="http://s402.photobucket.com/albums/pp107/carolivy64-tatting/Tatted%20Jewelry/">Photobucket</a> where you can see all the new jewelry I've made (both shuttle tatted and needle tatted)<br />
<br />
I hope you are all having a wonderful Summer and getting some wonderful tatting done. I am going everywhere with my tatting now and even have several ladies who have asked me to teach them how to tat! Yeah! Spread the tatting to all you can. ;-PCarolivyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12207213314667441643noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8085557839533812996.post-42707882519462196362011-06-02T09:19:00.000-04:002011-06-02T09:19:30.851-04:00Newest Tatted JewelryI've also been busy making some more tatted jewelry. This set is <a href="http://yarnplayertats.blogspot.com/2008/12/dream-pendant-and-earring-set.html">Dream</a> by <a href="http://yarnplayertats.blogspot.com/">Yarnplayer</a> is up on my <a href="http://customcreationsfromcarolivy.blogspot.com/2011/06/ive-been-busy.html">blog store</a>. <br />
I made my set with Lily 6 cord Ecru thread in size 30 and Teal(ish) leaf and seed beads.<br />

I made a really cool bookmark using Red & White Rickrack that has been wound together to look like a Candy Stick. The pattern is called Tatted Rickrack Candy Stick Bookmark. (the pattern used to be on Freepatterns.com but is no longer there)<br />

I'm in the process of putting a Blog Store together that will feature my handmade cards and other handmade crafts as well as my Designer Resource Graphics. I don't have a cart up and running yet, but the prices are listed, so if you see something you like, drop me an email (found in the Contact Me) and let me know what you are interested in. There are NO minimum purchases and special requests are welcome as well.<br />

<a href="http://www.customcreationsfromcarolivy.blogspot.com/">http://www.customcreationsfromcarolivy.blogspot.com/</a> Come on over and check me out, bookmark me, follow me and keep checking back. I have loads to put up, but have to sleep some time...lolCarolivyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12207213314667441643noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8085557839533812996.post-48856955404343431052011-01-31T15:41:00.000-05:002011-01-31T15:41:38.689-05:00Bag making frenzyHey all! I haven't been doing much tatting lately, but I HAVE been making Bags to carry the tatting in! I have made one called a Dorset Bag or <a href="http://quiltsalott.blogspot.com/2009/01/origami-pouch-tutorial.html">Origami Pocket Pouch</a>, the second bag is a <a href="http://www.tostetoes.com/drawstringinstructions.htm">Drawstring Pouch</a>, the last is just a pouch that has a zipper pocket added to the outside of it (no pattern here...just followed one I already had)<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Need to find some more zippers...really like the way this bag came out!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>I'll be taking these bags with me to the upcoming Craft Show on February 12, so we will see if others like them as well as I do...lol I think of all the material I've used, I like the golds and browns of the last Drawstring Bag.<br />
Oh, the Christmas Bag is NOT going to be sold! That one is mine! I'm adding tatting around the edge of that triangular pockets as well...will show you a finished pic of it when I get it done.<br />
Thanks for stopping by.<br />

I have been doing tatting...really! I've just been so busy, I forget to let you all know what I've been doing. So, this post is going to be picture intensive.....I'll put a little blurb in with each photo too...(go and get a cuppa, I'll wait....)<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TTbcg4xFnGI/AAAAAAAAAyk/qbPrL2VWCE4/s1600/Lacey+Bookmark+done+with+shuttle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="288" n4="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TTbcg4xFnGI/AAAAAAAAAyk/qbPrL2VWCE4/s400/Lacey+Bookmark+done+with+shuttle.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Lacey Bookmark done with shuttle</td></tr>
</tbody></table>This bookmark is tatted with a size 10 Grey thread that I had intended on using on the following Two-by-Two bookmark, but it was a different weight size 10 than the burgandy I did the center with....so, since the shuttle was already loaded, I made up this bookmark.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TTbcm6A0btI/AAAAAAAAAyo/sxVru1lLc4Y/s1600/Celtic+and+Two-by-Two+Bookmarks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" n4="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TTbcm6A0btI/AAAAAAAAAyo/sxVru1lLc4Y/s400/Celtic+and+Two-by-Two+Bookmarks.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Celtic and Two-by-Two Bookmarks</td></tr>
</tbody></table> I really like the burgandy and cream thread of the Two-by-Two, but really think the bookmark would have "popped" more if I had been able to use the grey thread...ah well. I LOVE anything Celtic, so this bookmark was a joy to make. What a lot of color combinations you could use to make this gorgeous bookmark!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Jane's Bookmark (shuttle)</td></tr>
</tbody></table> This little bookmark has to be one of my all time favorite patterns to work, needle or shuttle!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TTbcvyNQ5SI/AAAAAAAAAyw/pyYZpqCEmjc/s1600/Color+Challenge.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="363" n4="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TTbcvyNQ5SI/AAAAAAAAAyw/pyYZpqCEmjc/s400/Color+Challenge.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Color Challenge</td></tr>
</tbody></table>These bookmarks are the results of an interesting Color Challenge that one of the ladies from <a href="http://www.intatters.com/index.php?referrerid=1131">InTatters</a> put on. Tat something with a Variegate, then with the Variegate and a Solid Color, then reverse those colors, then the Solid Color. I had a limited amount of the size thread I wanted to use, so that is why my solid bookmark is Cream instead of White.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TTbeZkPD_ZI/AAAAAAAAAy0/AewjkQu1wmY/s1600/Jane%2527s+Bookmark.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="186" n4="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TTbeZkPD_ZI/AAAAAAAAAy0/AewjkQu1wmY/s400/Jane%2527s+Bookmark.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Jane's Bookmark</td></tr>
</tbody></table>This is Jane's bookmark again, using all of the thread leftover on the shuttles from the Color Challenge. Not enough for a "full length" bookmark, so I added ribbon to both ends.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TTbexwjAczI/AAAAAAAAAy4/RpZZpwxeKBY/s1600/Hematite+Bead+Bracelet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="101" n4="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TTbexwjAczI/AAAAAAAAAy4/RpZZpwxeKBY/s400/Hematite+Bead+Bracelet.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Hematited Bracelet</td></tr>
</tbody></table>This bracelet is made with Split Rings and Hematite Beads (alternating round and square), then the Chain done after all the Rings are done. I made this bracelet to give my youngest daughter when we picked her up at the airport right before Christmas.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TTbfPuYcVaI/AAAAAAAAAy8/5KgbT82v8oo/s1600/Greenman+necklace.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" n4="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TTbfPuYcVaI/AAAAAAAAAy8/5KgbT82v8oo/s400/Greenman+necklace.jpg" width="327" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Greenman Necklace</td></tr>
</tbody></table>I made this necklace with Split Rings, various sizes of Hematite Beads and 4 Garnet Beads (right near the Green Man). The Green Man was a gift from my friend when I went to visit her in Upstate New York late last Summer. Originally, I just had him on a silver chain, but it just didn't "work". I think this necklace works really well with him.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TTbf7ZUT3sI/AAAAAAAAAzA/wjbbhpvgdXI/s1600/Christmas+Earrings.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" n4="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TTbf7ZUT3sI/AAAAAAAAAzA/wjbbhpvgdXI/s400/Christmas+Earrings.jpg" width="355" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My Christmas Earrings</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Ok, last tatting picture for today. These are the earrings I made for myselft for Christmas. I had made another pair that was similar and when I was at a Craft Show in early December, a lady wanted a pair of Christmas Earrings, and I didn't have any on display. I was, however wearing a pair that I told the lady I could make a pair like them for her if she wanted. Well....in the end, I just ended up selling her the pair out of my ears...lol....so I had to make myself a new pair. The thread is actually some that I plied myself. My OH made me a spindle, based on the CD/dowel spindle and I used 3 strands of Machine Embroidery Thread. After plying the thread together though, it had way toooooo much twist, so I found both ends and let it "untwist" onto itself, essentially re-plying itself again in the opposite direction. I really like how the thread ended up and will be making more of it to tat jewelry with.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Christmas Craft Show 2010</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Here is the display from the Christmas Craft Show that I did. I sold a few cards and actually sold quite a few of my tatted earrings.<br />
I have another show that I am getting ready for on February 12 that will be at the Country Club again. I can just hope that i do as well there as I did at the Christmas Show.<br />
<br />
Now that you have seen what I have been doing since I posted last time, I will "try" to post a bit more frequently so my posts aren't this long again...<br />
<br />
Sending you all hugs<br />

I tried to do this YEARS ago and just could NOT wrap my head (or my hands) around this! Well, thanks to Needle Tatting and actually knowing what the knots are supposed to look like and thanks to the wonderful ladies over at <a href="http://www.intatters.com/index.php?referrerid=1131">InTatters</a>, I have taken up Shuttle Tatting!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/THG_doViWLI/AAAAAAAAAxI/gf-fJpi_3jg/s1600/First+Shuttle+Tatting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="350" ox="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/THG_doViWLI/AAAAAAAAAxI/gf-fJpi_3jg/s400/First+Shuttle+Tatting.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Well, this is my absolute Very First piece of Shuttle Tatting!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/THG_oeuo6YI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/6Yz9xuYiLOI/s1600/First+Shuttle+Tatted+Piece.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" ox="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/THG_oeuo6YI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/6Yz9xuYiLOI/s400/First+Shuttle+Tatted+Piece.jpg" width="315" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Got the Ring and Chain figured out, so now it is time to actually MAKE something, as I never could understand the practice of practicing without actually making something. This is the <a href="http://www.be-stitched.com/pattern0712tree.asp">Tatted Christmas Tree from BeStitched</a>. I chose this pattern because I got to practice several things. I got to practice my Rings, Bare Threads and my Chains. I also got to practice the Magic Thread Trick for hiding ends. Very cool trick, let me tell you!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The only problem I am having with the Shuttle Tatting is that I am double jointed and my fingers lock up at the worst moments. One of those "moments" being when I am trying to hold the thread snug when I make picots, so I decided to make myself a Tatting Chatelaine, also thanks to xstitchntat from InTatters for the wonderful idea in the first place! I went to a second hand store and bought a crochet hook (the only one they had...a size 8) and had my brother cut the hook off just as it starts flaring into the handle. I then took a very small lenght of thin dowel and drilled a small hole in it and put Super Glue in the hole, then the hook. Let it dry an hour or so and Voila! Mini Hook! I drilled a hole in the end so I can hang in on my Chatelaine. The picot guages I made from the plastic from an empty gum box. You've all seen my Striver before. ;-)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Sorry if I caused anyone any confusion! Thanks for letting me know. I'm always more than happy to help out in any way I can!<br />

Nothing I hate worse than knots when you don't actually need them! I hope this helps someone esle out there who hates extra knots and is struggling with how to add new thread.<br />

I SO love Celtic Tatting! I tatted this one up with 3 different colors of size 30 thread. White for the first row, Variegated Blues for the 1st 1/2 of the second row and Blue for the 2nd 1/2 of the second row. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TE2X5oRUL3I/AAAAAAAAAtE/JrhWgjhPyD0/s1600/Frakira%27s+Version+of+Jon%27s+Snowflake+Challenge.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" hw="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TE2X5oRUL3I/AAAAAAAAAtE/JrhWgjhPyD0/s400/Frakira%27s+Version+of+Jon%27s+Snowflake+Challenge.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I really LOVE how many wonderful patterns are coming out of Jon's Snowflake Challenge! Keep your eyes out as I will be tatting Tatknot's version as soon as I get done with another of Yarnplayer's doilies that I am tatting.</div>Carolivyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12207213314667441643noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8085557839533812996.post-23830177421615457122010-07-26T09:24:00.000-04:002010-07-26T09:24:49.964-04:00Thread ExperimentI have over 60 spools of Machine embroidery floss from when I was doing Embroidery on Cards. I don't do so much of that anymore, so am trying to find something else to use that thread for so it wasn't a wasted investment. I have mostly thread from <a href="http://www.threadart.com/shop/">Thread Art</a> but I have a few spools of Gutermann Sulky, Gutermann Metallic and Mettlar, so wanted to see how they all tatted up in comparison to the smallest tatting thread I have on hand, which is a size 70. I'm not exactly sure what size the other threads work out to be, but I think the Thread Art thread is a 120, based on a 120D/2 on the spools. Here are my results.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TE2Ja99lv9I/AAAAAAAAAs8/s5VIltyVRzI/s1600/Thread+Experiment.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" hw="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TE2Ja99lv9I/AAAAAAAAAs8/s5VIltyVRzI/s400/Thread+Experiment.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I think that the Mettlar and the Thread Art threads need a finer needle to use these without combining them with another thread. The Double Stitches are a bit looser than I like them to be, but they both tat up very nicely, so I will be able to combine these threads with some of my plain tatting threads for LOTS of possibilities now. The biggest surprise for me was how easy the Gutermann Metallic tatted up! My surprise comes from the fact that the thread is not smooth. I do have some Gutermann Metallic that IS smooth and that did NOT tat up very nicely at all! Completely opposite to my expectations!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now, I'm off to see if they make a finer needle than the #8 Extra Fine that Handy Hands has. If not, then I am going to try tatting the Mettlar and the Thread Art thread using one of my Beading Needles. Will just have to watch my fingers as they are Sharps!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

Paperclips are just TOO bulky! One of the lady's over at InTatters showed us these Strivers and I just HAD to make my own!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TEbjgJ68IRI/AAAAAAAAAsE/8uxCLDT9iOA/s1600/Striver.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" hw="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TEbjgJ68IRI/AAAAAAAAAsE/8uxCLDT9iOA/s400/Striver.jpg" width="280" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">All you need to make your very own Striver is an Earring Finding (I used a French Hook here, but other styles can be used too...I just added more "curl" to my hook), a small length of wire to hold a few beads on, some beads, a charm and a pair of Needle Nose or Jewelers Pliers. How easy is that? Much more elegant looking than a Paperclip as well! I've used this Striver with thread all the way down to size 30 with great success and think it will even go down to smaller thread just fine.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Hope you all make some pretties for your tatting box now. ;-)</div>Carolivyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12207213314667441643noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8085557839533812996.post-77423966113258505752010-07-15T07:50:00.001-04:002010-07-15T07:52:07.538-04:00Life Has a Bad HabitLife has a bad habit of getting in the way fo the Creative Process...or at least the sharing of that process with my friends here. I'm very sorry it has been so long since my last post. I've been fighting some major depression brought on by some things that are going on in my life right now. Hopefully, soon these will be over and I can get back on an even keel and get back to posting regularly.<br />
Now, our Tatting Design Course is over, and I have done all but the last 2 lessons....yup, I even fell behind in that as well, but I have a LOT to share with you today. Gonna catch you all up with my tatting work since I last posted at least. Tatting brings me peace, so I do it a LOT! ;-><br />
Lesson 6: We drew out the Pattern for Lesson 5 and my version can be found here: <a href="http://www.4shared.com/document/WEn0zCxb/Lesson_6_Drawing.html">http://www.4shared.com/document/WEn0zCxb/Lesson_6_Drawing.html</a><br />
<br />
<br />
Lesson 7 and 8 were more working with the Graphic's Program that we were learning, so nothing to show for it, but Lesson 9 was (in my opinion) the MOST fun Lesson of all! We got to take a clip art drawing of a Snowflake and, using the Graphic's Software, create a pattern for a Snowflake using Tatting. Well, I really enjoyed doing this one! Here is my pattern for Lesson 9: <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TD7zd_dmnSI/AAAAAAAAAq0/Ox5iR-e1uQA/s1600/Snowflake+1+Pattern.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" rw="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TD7zd_dmnSI/AAAAAAAAAq0/Ox5iR-e1uQA/s320/Snowflake+1+Pattern.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">There is nothing to show for the next Lesson and I haven't finished the last 2 Lessons.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">However, I have done more tatting and another design project as well. I took a Design Challenge by one of the members of InTatters and came up with this lovely Snowflake Pattern.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TD70GSTOlfI/AAAAAAAAAq8/Vf_VARzbpcY/s1600/Jon%27s+Snowflake+Challenge.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" rw="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TD70GSTOlfI/AAAAAAAAAq8/Vf_VARzbpcY/s400/Jon%27s+Snowflake+Challenge.JPG" width="308" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This one was a very fun one to work! I showed the first row finished, because I think that would also make a great looking ornament on its own as well.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I've also done some Motifs for a Summer Challenge on InTatters. Here they are: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TD701hgt_QI/AAAAAAAAArE/p2V_GaMmuzw/s1600/no+9089+Motif.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="387" rw="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TD701hgt_QI/AAAAAAAAArE/p2V_GaMmuzw/s400/no+9089+Motif.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TD709VPtqaI/AAAAAAAAArM/6k-RvE2AoQU/s1600/Rosette+in+Tatting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="357" rw="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TD709VPtqaI/AAAAAAAAArM/6k-RvE2AoQU/s400/Rosette+in+Tatting.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">And a Doily designed by Yarnplayer. I simply LOVED working up this lovely!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TD71Oe2olMI/AAAAAAAAArU/FcEfW7Sd7FA/s1600/Jubiloso.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="397" rw="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Gbv7rT6hETY/TD71Oe2olMI/AAAAAAAAArU/FcEfW7Sd7FA/s400/Jubiloso.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">Well, that is all of the completed work I have to share with you today. I hope to start posting more regularly again very soon. Thank you all for being patient with me and sorry for taking so long to catch you all up with me. My "head" knows that a problem shared is a problem lightened, but when it actually came down to coming here and posting, I just couldn't find the "umph" Hopefully, I have broken that cycle with this post! :-></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Carolivyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12207213314667441643noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8085557839533812996.post-85289455094507079652010-05-12T14:43:00.000-04:002010-05-12T14:43:57.549-04:00I'm SO bad!<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Sorry I keep falling behind!
